Crossharbour by KRULA   When I was approached by the band Crossharbour I’d never heard about them before. They were looking for a photographer who would help them to create a cover for their CD and images for PR purposes.  As soon as we met a brainstorm started, for a few hours we had been bouncing some ideas forwards and backwards. We knew that we want to create something different, they are in the very competitive market of  Irish Music, and it is even harder for them as they are a band with its roots in  London.  So we wanted to highlight their London roots. Holi One by KRULA PHOTOGRAPHY    Sometimes you look for opportunities and sometimes they just cross your path when you least expect. For me it was the Holi One festival. I’d never heard about this festival before,  inspired by Indian celebration. To be honest it was first time it  took place in London. It is a music festival and every hour they countdown and then everybody throws coloured powders in the air.  When I’d seen the trailer I was mesmerised and excited by the explosions of the colours.

Small change makes a big difference

When I started my ONE PERSON STUDIO – Real Faces of Tattoo project I wasn’t 100 % sure about the concept. I knew I wanted to photograph tattooists. I had some idea how I’d like the background to look, how to set up the lights. I knew that I wanted to portray them the way they are. The way I see them. The way they are to me, as it is always one’s interpretation of the person whose portrait is taken.
But what is interesting for me is how this project is evolving, how I change the light, backgrounds.
Firstly I wanted background to be neutral black but now I let it to be different but not crowded, not overpowering.
I want it to be background, simple. But now I experiment with light and by changing angles I had to change the postproduction process. Hope you like the new images and that they will be good addition to the portraits I shot so far.
Studio in Richmond is the first studio where I changed my standard setting and I think it was worth it. Changes are always good :)

Unplanned portraits

Sometimes during the shoot I see someone from a team who in my opinion will look great in the picture. During a shoot for one of the designer companies, the owner of the company was present, he was a great character and I wanted to take his portrait. He agreed and I wanted to create a dramatic portrait with a lot of shadows. Something like well known portrait of singer Seal

I wanted to create something mysterious and simple, yet strong.

The lighting that I used was one head with a 2m diameter umbrella.

Glamour or not to glamour?

I rarely visit my native land these days, but last time I was in Poland I received a proposal to shoot a girl who wanted to give some pictures of herself to her fiancée. All I knew was that she would like to have ‘’nice’’ pictures, that’s all. Everything was ready to go. Read the rest of this entry »

When I got married, my wife and I wanted something special to take us to the ceremony so we hired an old Cadillac.   I fell in love with this car and I wanted to take some pictures, so the day after our wedding I did just that.

I just got last issue of Hairstylist Journal and there was this additional issue about American Crew competition. I found that two of the pictures that I did with team of hairstylist for this competition were printed. :)

Not a cover but it’s always good to see your own work printed.
